It’s been a couple months since Sarah Lynn Design launched a new website for Ghost Blog Writers.
One of the upgrades to the website was responsive design. This enabled the website to have an optimized look and feel for those visiting the site on a mobile device like an iPhone.
With more people using their smartphones to access information on the web it’s important to make sure they have a good experience so they’re comfortable doing business with you.
I was worried that the previous version of GBW was not giving visitors a good mobile experience so SLD stepped in and provided the change.
After the change the site looked great on mobile devices, but I was curious what kind of effect it would have on things like traffic and conversion.
I’ve had a few new inquiries and clients tell me that they’ve visited the site on their phone. I make it part of the inquiry process to ask clients how they find out about us and in conversations with them I’ll ask if they were using their phone at any time.
A few have said that they have. Others have also said that they like the way the site looks and how it answers all their questions.
Mobile traffic also increased last month.
It was up over twice what it had been the previous few months, but that could be a little bit of an aberration. Traffic for this month is back down a little bit for mobile, but the long-term trend appears to be that mobile traffic will continue to increase.
There are a number of reasons that mobile traffic could be up. Overall site traffic could be up. People are using their phones more to access the web.
But I think the responsive design also has something to do with it. If people have a good experience on your site they’re more likely to dive deeper into your site and go through your conversion process.
In the coming months I’m going to keep on eye on the data to see if conversions continue to see positive benefits from the responsive design update.
So far, so good.
